Clean-Up Dives in Aqaba – 28–29 November
Aqaba Moon Diving Center x Project Sea
The Red Sea is one of the most unique marine ecosystems on the planet, and protecting it is a shared responsibility. On 28–29 November, Aqaba Moon Diving Center joined forces with Project Sea to conduct two full days of underwater clean-up dives across several dive sites in Aqaba. This environmental initiative united dedicated divers and conservation enthusiasts with the mission to keep the Gulf of Aqaba healthy and thriving.
Our Commitment to Protecting the Red Sea
Aqaba’s coral reefs are known for their vibrant marine life, warm waters, and excellent visibility. As one of the leading dive centers in Jordan, Aqaba Moon Diving Center believes in promoting responsible and sustainable diving. Marine debris such as fishing lines, metal objects, plastics, and lost equipment can cause severe damage to corals and marine animals. Our clean-up dives, conducted in partnership with organizations like Project Sea, aim to reduce these threats and preserve the underwater world we love.
Underwater Clean-Up Dives – What We Did
During the two-day event, our teams carried out organized underwater missions led by experienced instructors and environmental specialists. Each dive was planned to ensure diver safety and maximize the amount of waste removed without disturbing marine ecosystems.
- Removing debris from sandy bottoms, coral reefs, and dive site structures
- Cutting and collecting fishing lines entangled in corals
- Gathering plastic, glass, metal, and lost diving equipment
- Documenting all recovered items for environmental reporting
Environmental Data Collection & Documentation
In addition to cleaning the reefs, the event included detailed environmental data collection led by Project Sea. Every recovered item was recorded to support scientific research and long-term monitoring of pollution trends in the Gulf of Aqaba.
The data included:
- Type and category of debris
- Approximate weight and volume
- Depth and location of findings
- Potentially harmful waste such as nets and hooks
Environmental Awareness & Eco Education
After the dives, participants joined awareness sessions discussing sustainability, responsible diving habits, and the long-term impact of marine debris. Topics included coral-safe diving techniques, reducing single-use plastic, and how divers can actively support ocean conservation initiatives in Aqaba.
Impact of the 28–29 November Clean-Up Dives
The clean-up dives produced outstanding results, showing what can be achieved when the diving community comes together for a shared purpose.
- Large quantities of marine debris removed from underwater sites
- Fishing lines and nets safely cleared from coral structures
- Improved underwater safety and visibility
- Heightened awareness of conservation issues in Aqaba
Every piece of debris removed contributes to the long-term protection of coral reefs, fish, turtles, and all marine life that depend on a clean environment.
Why Clean-Up Dives Matter in Aqaba
The Gulf of Aqaba is one of the most biologically rich regions of the Red Sea, but it faces ongoing environmental pressure. Clean-up dives help protect local ecosystems by:
- Preventing damage to corals
- Reducing entanglement risks for marine animals
- Maintaining healthy visibility levels for divers
- Supporting sustainable tourism and eco diving
- Preserving the Red Sea for future generations
